WebClarity releases MARC Notepad 2.0
Barrie, Ontario – January 11, 2006 - WebClarity Software Inc. announced today the General Release of MARC Notepad version 2.0. This release is another step on WebClarity’s quest to provide its library customers with exceptional software tools for the technical services department that are complimentary to any Library System, improve workflows and provide exceptional value.
This latest version of MARC Notepad includes character set support for UNICODE™, MARC-8 (ALA) and Latin-1 encoded records; and MARC support for UNIMARC and MARC21 format handling. It easily handles multiple record editing for cleanup of thousands of records at time, macros for global edit functions with consistent application from file to file and much more. MARC Notepad 2.0 will dramatically reduce the time needed to revisit records that have been selected for import to any local library management system.
BookWhere customers will no doubt benefit from MARC Notepad’s ability to perform edits quickly and easily with just a few clicks, however, any library that currently obtains or works with MARC21 records, can derive significant time/cost savings with its simple and fast editing capability.
“I believe that regardless of the community, the library’s focus is on delivering within allotted budget constraints the best customer service possible”, states Phil Smith, President and CEO of WebClarity Software. “The tools that we create should help libraries achieve this end. By enabling libraries to help each other in the copy cataloguing process through reducing duplication of effort our customers can dramatically reduce their costs of building and maintaining their databases. Not only do our customers obtain optimal choice to ensure their catalogue references are top notch, but they are better able to ensure those funds that would otherwise be spent on costly record sources, often many thousands of dollars each year, may be used for higher priority directives that can directly influence the customer experience.”
As the first UNICODE™ compliant client of its kind, MARC Notepad 2.0 will broaden WebClarity’s ability to deliver the same high quality, time tested tools they are known for to the widest possible geography. Libraries that have invested in next generation, UNICODE™ compliant library management systems, will be able edit records originating with MARC-8 encoding (i.e. ALA Character set) with the security of knowing they that they will be able to export those records to their system with their chosen encoding.
MARC Notepad 2.0 is covered by WebClarity’s exceptional maintenance program that not only provides email and telephone access to technical support, but provides organizations with protection of their Software investment. All MARC Notepad maintenance subscribers will be entitled to version 2.0 without additional charge; this is part of WebClarity’s commitment to provide exceptional service and value.
