Backing up BookWhere Settings
All of BookWhere's custom settings are stored under
two folders within the Documents and Settings folder
on the C: drive. If your computer is managed through
a central network server some of these instructions
may not apply to you. Please consult your network administrator
for advice.
These are the two folders which
need to be backed up to a CD or a network drive,
should you need to reinstall BookWhere for any reason.
Ensure that BookWhere is not running and make copies
of these folders and their contents whenever settings
or database groups have been changed in order to
have a good backup of your BookWhere environment.
- C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application
Data\WebClarity Software Inc\BookWhere
This folder contains BookWhere settings
that are specific to this physical computer and common
to all users of the computer. See the notes under
Restoring BookWhere settings for important details
on these settings.
- C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application
Data\WebClarity Software Inc\BookWhere
This folder contains all of the personal settings for the currently logged-in
BookWhere user. See the notes under Restoring BookWhere settings for important
details on these settings.
Note: USERNAME is the username
you specify when logging in to Windows. If you do not normally login when
Windows starts USERNAME could be Default
User
- Make a copy of these folders along with a copy
of the BookWhere application installer (e.g. BKWR600.exe)
on a CD or a backed up network drive for safe keeping.
Re-installing BookWhere
If you have a copy of your BookWhere Settings files
as well as the current application installer you will
be able to precisely recreate your BookWhere environment
in the event of a hardware failure or hardware replacement/upgrade.
At a minimum you will need a copy of the BookWhere
application installer in order to re-install BookWhere
to it's default settings. Note: Users holding a current Maintenance agreement with
WebClarity can obtain a copy of the current BookWhere
installer via web download, however, backups of your
settings are important if you have modified the default
settings, created groups of databases, etc.
- To restore your previous
BookWhere environment a backup of your BookWhere Settings will
be required. If your old hardware is not operational,
this step is not possible and a factory default installation
on your new computer will be the only option. Regular
backups of your Application Data folders are invaluable
for preserving any custom settings. Note: If
you have co-workers who have a similar BookWhere
environment, you can backup their BookWhere Settings
and use them as a starting point.
- If re-installing BookWhere
on a new computer,
please contact WebClarity Technical Support: support@webclarity.info
Please provide the following information:
- BookWhere Serial Number
- Confirmation that
BookWhere has been uninstalled from the old hardware
- Reason
for re-installation (new
computer, moving to different workstation, etc.)
This step is very important
as a BookWhere license will not activate on a different
computer without intervention from WebClarity Technical
Support.
- Install
BookWhere using
the backup copy of the installer (e.g. BKWR600.exe).
If you have a current Maintenance contract for your
license, you can obtain assistance from WebClarity
Technical Support, as well as download a copy of
the installer. Note: We
can only provide installers for current Maintenance
holders, otherwise you must have a copy of the installer
saved on CD or a network drive in order to re-install
BookWhere.
- Restore previous
settings (optional)
- Ensure you are logged
in to Windows with your usual username
- Copy
all of the files from
the backup you prepared earlier to their
respective locations on the new computer:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application
Data\WebClarity Software Inc\BookWhere
C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\WebClarity Software Inc\BookWhere
- Launch BookWhere and you will
be prompted to re-activate your software.
Important Note: Under
the terms of the License Agreement, a single BookWhere
license/activation can be installed and used on only
one workstation. If you have purchased a BookWhere
Academic License (serial numbers beginning with BA...)
you may install and activate the application on up
to two computers for personal use.
