What are the network ports required for proper operation of BookWhere?

The Z39.50 search service normally operates on port 210, however, many library system vendors have implemented the service on alternate ports. Some vendors also allow library customers to run their Z39.50 servers on a port of their own choosing.

To successfully search many library databases, your workstation will need to be permitted to open connections on several ports in addition to port 210. Below we have presented a list of the most commonly used ports on databases listed in our Directory of Z39.50 Targets. Your Systems Administrator will need to ensure that any network firewall is configured to allow outbound TCP connections on these ports.

Similarly, if you are running personal firewall on your PC, you will need to ensure that the BookWhere application is granted permission to open outbound TCP connections on these ports. (It may be easier to grant the BookWhere application access to all ports, if your firewall software can be configured that way.)
