When I add a new tag, why does it go to the bottom of my MARC record?

The MARC editing program can be configured to keep the tags sorted by tag number, but the default setting is to have newly added tags go to the bottom of the record. If you add a tag 020 (ISBN), it can go between the 010 and the 035 if you change the setting in the editor and specify that you want to keep tags sorted by number.

To change the default behavior, open MARC Notepad and then navigate to the General tab in the Settings window.

Press F7 or open the Options dropdown menu and choose Settings.
Navigate to the General tab. Check the box “Keep tags sorted by tag number” and click OK to save.
